Metrovagonmash to manufacture 2 modern trains for Baku Metro

OJSC Metrovagonmash (part of JSC Transmashholding) signed a contract with CJSC Baku Metropolitan for the supply of two five-car 81-765/766 train-sets to the Azerbaijan capital of Baku. Each train-set will have two head cars and three intermediate motor cars.

Estimated wagons service life is 31 years. The contract was signed by Metrovagonmash General Director, Boris Bogatyryov and Baku Metro head, Zaur Huseynov. The first delivery of the new wagons to Baku is scheduled for March 2018. The contract is expected to be fully implemented during 2018.

Mytishchi Machine Works has manufactured 81-765/766 model cars, known as “Moskva”, for Moscow Metropolitan since the beginning of 2017. In contrast to the Baku contract, Moscow receives six-car and eight-car train-sets, each of which has non-motor intermediate 81-767 cars (one in six-car, two in eight-car).

Trains have a through passage and wider doorways in comparison with the previous models, as well as a new door opening/closing light warning system. Trains are also distinguished by a number of innovations. Wheels having low-stressed noise-absorbing design were designed for a new generation of metro cars. Its design used a new modern asynchronous traction drive and provides reliable, eco-friendly, noise and heat insulation of the cars. Special space for bicycles and wheelchairs is also allocated in the head car. Air conditioning, ventilation and air disinfection systems are used in the passenger saloons.

“Baku Metropolitan prefers the most advanced and promising technical solutions while updating the rolling stock,” said Andrey Vasiliev, Transmashholding Commercial Director for the Urban Transport Development, commenting on the contract signing. “We are extremely glad that our colleagues have chosen our offer”.

OJSC Metrovagonmash and Baku Metropolitan have a long-term beneficial cooperation. The plant has been supplying rolling stock to Baku since 1967. There are 280 metro cars, manufactured by Mytishchi Machine Works, operating for today.

The previous delivery of Mytishchi metro cars to Azerbaijan took place in 2015, when OJSC Metrovagonmash together with Alstom transferred three five-car 81-760.B/761.B/763.B with a through passage to Baku Metropolitan.
